Roofing Term
Ridge Vent
A ridge vent is defined as a continuous ventilation component installed along the entire ridge of a roof to allow warm, moist air to escape from the attic space through the natural convection process known as the stack effect. Ridge vents provide 18 square inches of net free area per linear foot and work in conjunction with soffit vents to create balanced attic ventilation. Ridge vent systems are considered the most effective and aesthetically discreet form of roof exhaust ventilation, and they can significantly reduce peak attic temperatures.
