Wind Rating

Wind rating is defined as the maximum sustained wind speed that a shingle is tested and warranted to withstand without lifting, peeling, or tearing. Wind ratings are determined through ASTM D7158 (Class D: 90 mph, Class G: 120 mph, Class H: 150 mph) and ASTM D3161 testing standards. Owens Corning Duration shingles carry a 130 mph wind warranty, while Duration FLEX shingles are rated to 130 mph with enhanced flexibility. In high-wind zones, proper installation with 6-nail patterns (versus the standard 4-nail) is required to achieve the rated wind resistance.
