Roofing Term
Fascia
Fascia is defined as the vertical board or trim piece that caps the exposed ends of the roof rafters along the eave, serving as the mounting surface for the gutter system and the termination point for the drip edge. Fascia is typically made from 1x6 or 1x8 lumber, fiber cement, or aluminum cladding. Damaged or rotted fascia must be replaced during a roof replacement to ensure proper gutter attachment and prevent water infiltration behind the eave.
