Three-Tab Shingles

Three-tab shingles are defined as single-layer asphalt shingles with two cutouts that create the appearance of three individual tabs per shingle strip. Three-tab shingles are 12 inches by 36 inches and produce a flat, uniform appearance. While less expensive than architectural shingles (approximately $2.50 to $3.50 per square foot installed), three-tab shingles have a shorter lifespan of 15 to 25 years, lower wind resistance (typically rated to 60-70 mph), and now represent less than 20% of new residential roofing installations.
